Director Job Description

Job Title: Director of Youth-in-Action

Status: Part Time, 25 hours, per week (flexible work hours that will include school hours, after-school hours, and weekends)


Job Summary: The Director is responsible for running a community service program for local high school students, creating and organizing meaningful volunteer opportunities and recruiting students to participate in the projects. The director is the face of the organization in the community. Further responsibilities include marketing the program and leading fundraising efforts under the direction of the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will be an organized, flexible, self-starter who is passionate about providing opportunities for teens to serve their community.


Founded in 1983, Youth-In-Action is a non-profit group providing Hanover High School students and other members of the Hanover/Norwich community with volunteer opportunities in and around the Upper Valley. Our goal is to provide local high school students with a diverse set of opportunities to engage in community service, with the ultimate goal of equipping them with the skills and motivation to improve the lives of others, their environment and themselves.

Major Duties

Programming

  • Student recruitment for weekly projects

  • Community and student communications

  • Establish projects including working with organizations to assess needs and develop programs to fulfill those needs with interested students

  • Enrollment, participation, and partnership data tracking

  • Purchasing and delivering materials to events

  • Recruit student members and facilitate weekly Student Leadership Council meetings

  • Maintain and Organize supplies at the RWB Community Center

  • Manage Project Calendar

  • Presentation of Senior Awards

  • On-site project management, including motivating, organizing, and mentoring volunteers

  • Collect Mail

Marketing

  • Increase community awareness of the contributions of YIA

  • Update and maintain YIA website

  • Create and maintain a social media presence

  • Connect and communicate with student groups in the high school on a weekly basis

  • Oversee distribution of a summer mailing through the high school

  • Encourage student involvement at assemblies at the start of the school year

  • Organize and oversee the Ice Cream Social at start of the school year

  • Update bulletin boards at RWB Community Center and the High School

  • Maintain supply of t-shirts

Financial

  • Seek and procure funding opportunities including town funds, grants, and community based fundraising events.

  • Lead the annual giving campaign including: mailing/distributing request, tracking and depositing donations, writing thank you notes

Board Liaison

  • Attend monthly board meeting and other board/committee meetings as needed

  • Provide monthly Director’s Report including projects, participation numbers, recommendations for change, and expenses

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Ability to organize and execute a diverse workload, establish priorities and meet deadlines

  • Ability to coordinate volunteers

  • Proficient with computer applications including Google applications and social media platforms, and database management

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong public speaking and interpersonal relationship skills

  • Vision to create projects that will excite students and sustain program

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer management experience

  • Experience working with high school age students

  • Event management and fundraising experience

  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license and have access to a car

  • Be able to lift at least 50 pounds
